WORDPLAY: Games That Teach Storytelling--Game #2

NAME: RAINBOW ROUND ROBIN
LEARNING GOAL: INCREASED IMAGINATION AND DESCRIPTIVE ABILITY
GAME OBJECTIVE: PASS A STORY AROUND THE CIRCLE
PARTICIPANTS: 3 TO 20
FORMATION: SEATED CIRCLE
PROPS: NONE
LEADER'S ROLE: BEGIN THE STORY AND FACILITATE ITS TELLING

DESCRIPTION: The leader begins an impromptu story and continues until a color is mentioned. The leader stops on that color. The teller on the leader's right continues the story until they hit a color and the person on their right continues the tale. The telling moves around the circle with the last person in the circle bringing the story to a close. On occasion, the leader might need to gently prod a teller towards a color and move the story along. If you don't have many tellers, let the story go around the circle several times or as time allows.

We did something similar for an April's Fool's party a couple of years ago. My friend Alex & I played tandem with a story, while our audience circle held the control of switching tellers. The audience took turns ringing a bell. When we heard the bell, we had to switch tellers. They kept us going for a whole hour, laughing the whole time. It was a lot of fun.
