WORDPLAY: Games That Teach Storytelling Game #15

NAME:  STORY YARN

LEARNING GOAL:  PROJECTION, DICTION, VOICE INFLECTION, ETC

GAME OBJECTIVE:  Keep a story moving as dictated by a ball of yarn

# OF PARTICIPANTS:  3-20

FORMATION:  SEATED CIRCLE

PROPS:  A HAND-SIZED BALL OF YARN WITH LARGE KNOTS TIED RANDOMLY EVERY 2 OR 3 FEET

LEADER'S ROLE:  BEGIN THE GAME AND DEMONSTRATE THE GAME

 

DESCRIPTION:  The leader holds up a ball of yarn and begins an improvisational story.  As the leader speaks he or she is unrolling the ball's yarn and starting a new ball.  When a knot is reached, the leader passes the ball and the story to the next player in the circle.  Play continues around the circle with the last person concluding the tale.
