Hi Baba, good to see you and your work and travels here. What beautiful pictures! I can't wait to go to West Africa too. Actually there are so many places I want to visit, learn from, and so on. You inspire me. Hope to see you in Ohio in November!
Hey friend! thank you for inviting me into your world. I'm on the road at the moment, so I have only this little widget of time to respond. Later, I'll wander through your site.... when the dust settles. Peace, Sara (Ransom)
Well your conversation was fun - especially when it was soooooo off track and, when on track, it was edifying for me, a budding podcaster.
I am an east coast type with 4 children, no cash and too many jobs. Which is to say - give a shout of you are ever on the right coast!
I "don't get around much anymore."And have never been to CA except on my way to Japan in 1977. *sigh* The youngest is 15 so I am to be released someday soon. ;-)
It's great to "meet" you, Baba in this type of forum. In addition to studying the doumbek (Middle Eastern drum), I currently take occassional drop in classes on the djembe and dunenba taught by a master drummer from Togo. I just love the energy!!
Here is the deal on the hitchhiker... although I am sure that Micheal has already told you all about it. If anyone happens to be handling a new five dollar bill, with some surprised enthusiasm ask if they have seen the hitchhiker on the back of the bill. No matter what they say... you say... "Oh yeah... let me show you." (tell them to ) "Turn it over, look on the left side of the building..." pause while they look "Do you see it..." "hmm let me see?" and then after you look... say with a mild level of confusion... "hmmm... he must've got a ride." If it is timed right... it is a thing of beauty.
My other favorite is... to ask my server for "diet tea." When they come back to tell me that they don't have "diet tea." I ask... respectfully... "You don't have tea without sugar?"
Thanks for the translation - I just love getting to know new languages! (and I really see what you mean by difficult translation, many times I have the same problem with Hungarian:)
Üdvözlet a távolból!
Hey - put your two cents into the New Media Group I started.
Looking forward to talking again soon. O by the way have you listed to our show? so far the vote is two for and one against a repeat. LOL just kidding three to zero.
If the trend continues you will get back in there by #74
What you think - the African Connection or Working with a music instrument and storytelling?
PS: Buck what is this straighten up? where am I crooked?
I just love it... when I wrote it I thought this is too simple... where's the drama... the challenge...? But it does seem to work... thank you for noticing, coming from you that makes me feel really good about my work. If you talk to Eric Wolf anytime soon... tell him I said to "straighten up!" Thanks again for the encouragement. I became a storyteller, far removed from many of our peers, so my ideas sometimes takes a different slant. Let's be friends...get to know each other... and see just all the wheres a friendship can go. Blessings
