What a great site PS has become and what a great community of tellers. Forgive me for being so late in greeting you. My heart decided to throw a little surprise party at the emergency room... not a heart attack just Pericarditis (non-lethal... only painful condition). I am recovering nicely, was able to go ahead and get married and move. So you might forgive my late greeting. Hope you join some of the groups... mine will pick back up as I get more settled into our new routines. Anyway... welcome to PS and I hope you learn to love it and this wonderful collection of tellers as much as I do.
I lived in Edmonton for two and a half years and performed my array of theatrical dialoging characters in different genres.
Do you know any of the Bogomile, Katar, or Pricillian Tales from Italy? (from the spiritual heretical underground)
Details about what I do is online at www.storymaster.us
i see that you have received the information concerning the euroepan storytelling conference in Oslo. Hope yu are able to make it.
I have recently been in touch with some Italian colleagues in Angiano, Tuscany. they have a school for autobiografia.... use storytelling in many contexts. hope to get there later this year.
i would like to hear more about your work.
Aspetta momento -che cosa leggo al sito raccontamiunastoria?
It seems you are interested in Mary Read too?
Coincidence on top of coincidence!
I have a CD of her story ready to record. This is so synergetic as to be, as my children would say, a little freaky?
Ciao Paola - what a coincidence! Amazing. I am in Boston Massachusetts - the "right coast " aka the East coast, if you hop over the Big Pond.
The stories I know best are from my mother - she was the youngest and an only child by a second marriage and her mother came from Genoa to new York City, where I was born, as a very young girl - perhaps as young as 3 years old? My mother's stories are fascinating but as often the case, the accuracy is...well, who cares? Non che me importa - as long as it is a good story, non e vero? I am busy at the moment but, yes ! Let us keep up this exchange and if ever you are in Boston, let me play Virgil to your Dante - I will be your guide and perhaps your host?
Ciao for now.
I am an Italo- American storyteller. Our family turned their backs on their culture to become Americans - I had to study in a book to find the tales of my people. No one told any stories about or from Italy! ( Miei nonni é d-origine Italiani - nonna - da genova nonno da Napoli) My grandparents never spoke Italian in the home and I had to learn Italian at university - sadly I was not a good language student and only studied a year - If only I could live in Italy ! I know I woud learn then, *sigh* someday.
But the Italian zest for life, expressive culture and natural ability to tell a story was very much alive in our family and thus I believe you will find in Italy many people who understand and will support what you hope to do - Buona fortuna!
Ciao for now.

Hello Helaine...you wuldn't believe it...but we are basically the only storytelling group of Italy...Anyway I'm trying to come to Oslo and we might speak there and try to organize something.
Of the place you mentioned we sometimes do storytelling events in Toscany, in viareggio, and may be we can think to do something together there.
I'm really busy in this days, but will keep this in mind and get back to you asap.
Hope to see you in Oslo!(we are trying to see if we can collect enough monery from our group for me come and represent it).
Hi Paola--My husband and I are doing a 2-month tandem bike ride of Italy starting September 8th. I don't believe we'll be going to Rome, but do you know of any storytelling contacts in Venice, La Marche, Umbria and Tuscany. I will be performing at the National Storytelling Conference this year.
Greetings and welcome to this great site. I hope you find it useful. Would you consider joining the Applied Storytelling: the Power of Story group? We would love to have wisdom and insights added to the discussions and would welcome you starting some of your own! Best wishes to you. STEVE
