I was born one of 8 children to registered blind parents Lizzie and Thomas, “the daily ritual was for one or other of us to be sitting on my father’s knee with the others on the floor around him, and him telling us his wonderful stories. My father had the gift as did his father and it seems as if me and my youngest brother Michael got it too. I’m so grateful for this.”
Of all of my siblings and there are many I was elected at the tender age of 7 to carry on the long family tradition of telling bedtime stories to “the bairn” my baby brother Michael who is now an internationally acclaimed Storyteller in his own right.
As an Emotional Therapist, I work to improve the lives of others, in the workplace and in education. Using Storytelling as my medium I work in schools all over the UK and abroad but mainly in my chosen arena of PRU s (Pupil Referral Units) where I work with many children who have been excluded from mainstream school, I believe largely as a result of not being able to communicate at sometimes even the most basic level.
It's my knowledge and experience of the strength of the effects of stories on these youngsters that makes me passionate about this and gives me the perspective with which I operate to share this very special gift. Other Therapists come to me I believe because I can make it easier for them to get through to people.
I have also been a successful public speaker of many years standing and until I "hung up her boots" at the end of last season, for the last 16 years I have been Master of Ceremonies and Host at the famous Manchester United Football Club on match days.

I was in Derby a couple of years ago and really enjoyed my wonderful time with the Flying Donkeys. If you are ever over that way, that is a great collection of storytellers. I wish we could have met while I was there as well.

Your PRUs (Pupil Referral Units) would be an area that other people connected with the Youth, Educators, and Storytellers Alliance would be interested to know more about.
Perhaps you could write an article for our quarterly online newsletter for our due-paying members? Or at least start up a discussion on the YES! group within Professional Storyteller?
