About Me:
Stories of my Danish and Icelandic Heritage are my first passion, though I love to tell traditional tales from all around the world. I come from Calgary Alberta in Canada. My great grandparents came here from Iceland in 1889 and 1900. My Danish grandparents came to Calgary in 1927. I feel rooted in this place through these family connections. I love the outdoors and have gained inspiration again and again from my wanderings in the wilderness.

I am part of a strong storytelling community called T.A.L.E.S. The Alberta League Encouraging Storytelling. I have been a part of this community since 1986. Through T.A.L.E.S. and through Storytellers of Canada I have been mentored in the art of storytelling. I appreciate all the wise ones who have guided me along the way.

I have told stories on the radio, for conferences, in churches, for hospice patients, at hospitals, in schools, preschools, community centres, in the fields and forests. My dream is to go to Iceland and Denmark and share stories there.

I am also a visual artist and am working on illustrating and publishing one of my stories that I call the Prairie Princess.

Since 1997 I have done extensive work in Calgary schools as artist in residence nurturing the creative spirit in folks of all ages. This year as well I have been working on a project called Storytree. Three storytellers are collaborating after school ( in low income areas of the city with high immigrant populations) for 12 weeks with groups of 12 children who have chosen to be storytellers. We are gathering up their stories and creating a performance to be mounted at the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts downtown. We are all very excited about putting on a show next Friday, May 16. If all goes well, we may be able to put it on again in June.

Hi Karen,

What are the objects you are holding in your hands in the picture? They look like mallets of some kind. Are you a marimba player? I play in a marimba bandcalled Wood Vibrations and the bass mallets we use look quite a bit like what you have there in the photo. Anyway, welcome to the site. Let's be friends? Lawrence.

Hello, Karen, and Welcome!

What a remarkable 'tale,' itself, your ABOUT ME makes - I think, for me, the closing paragraph is most exciting/enticing. "Good Show," and "Break a Leg!" come the 16th. What a great concept you all have come up with. Are the kids just 'going crazy' at the opportunity? When are you able to work with them during the day?

OK, sorry - got a little carried away there, but I do hope you are able to share more about it in the not-too-distant future.

This is a grand site for all tellers, and I'm sure you will quickly learn to love it for all it offers the discerning teller!

Take the time to check out the various pages - Main, Video, Photos, Forums, Groups, audiofiles, Members, Teller Pages - put all together it makes a wonderful online presence for you, at no cost, thanks to Dianne de Las Casas, the site's founder.

Please post whatever representative audiofiles, CDs, DVDs, Blogs, etc. you have so that our online family can get to know you better, who you are and what you do - and we'll do the same for you!

I am very happy you found your way here, I look forward to your contributions to the site, wish you continued growth, fulfillment and success along the way and, again, send my warm greetings and Welcome!

Sincerely,

Tom A.B. Taylor - Deep in the Heart of Texas
